Hostel, not hostile...

Day: 9

My first hostel experience has been a good one!! Thankfully!

After a few wrong turns from the train station and some frustrated wandering I finally located Le Village Hostel. From the outside it doesn't look much but once inside it was just fine.

The common areas have a welcoming feel and the rooms are clean. My room is on the third floor do it is also very quiet with no noise from the street or from the other rooms.

From the start I have had a roommate Clodie from Canada and she is great! We have done most of the sights of Paris together. It has been great, not only because she is lovely but she also speaks fluent French (being French-Canadian) and has been translating for me. Sadly she is leaving after only 2 days. We have also been sharing the room with a Thai girl, Ni, who is also very nice. The room we have been sharing has an ensuite bathroom which had been great. It has a bit of a strange shower though with a button you have to keep pushing to get the water going.

Also, breakfast every day is provided which is just basic cereal etc but it's nice not having to worry about it.

As I said I have been very lucky my first hostel experience has been a good one!

Spunky Clodie and our gorgoeus room!

Our hostel has a spectacular view of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica (The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris) which resides on the butte Montmartre (hill above us), overlooking Paris.

View from our room

The Sacré-Cœur is also the highest point of the city of Paris.

Also just near our hostel is the Moulin Rouge!! The area of Montmartre was a well known hangout for artists (some famous ones being Picasso, Money, Dali and van Gogh) and was known for it bohemine attitude.
